People who ride bikes have experienced a dangerous emergency stop because of too much braking - such as the front brake is too hard, and the rear wheel flew into the air. However, Bosch's new anti-lock brake system (ABS) is expected to completely avoid this situation. ABS has become quite popular in motor vehicles. It can prevent tire slippage and reduce braking distance by means of high-speed point brakes. The new brake system that Bosch has built for bicycles has a similar effect - although it only needs to be deployed to the front wheels.
Bosch has developed an anti-lock brake system for Electric Bicycles that provides safe and fast braking performance on a variety of surfaces. At a Bosch-sponsored Tech Day event in Boxberg, Germany, Wayne Cunningham experienced a bike ride as instructed.
After trying his best to pull the front brake, the front wheel did not lock up as he had expected and caused the vehicle to rush forward because the rear wheel remained on the ground honestly. Afterwards, he accelerated and pulled the brakes of the front and rear wheels violently. As a result, he experienced an extremely short braking distance and no slippage on the front wheels.
The ABS module is installed under the handle neck
Unfortunately, due to the need for electric support, this bicycle antilock system can only be used for Electric Bicycles. The CNET reporter experienced a car with eight gears + an electric auxiliary Ebike Motor and a battery pack, and the latter two systems were all built by Bosch.
It should be pointed out that even though the demonstration bike uses standard urban tyres, Bosch stated that the system is suitable for any tire with a width of more than 23mm. The system will initially be used on shared bikes, and consumer-grade Electric Bike will need to wait for some time.
